Tankquility Catalogue #: TQ-01324

Synonyms/Trade Names:

Original Plant Sourced as: Cryptocoryne wendtii ‘Flamingo’

Plant Family: Araceae

Plant Native to1:  Cryptocoryne wendtii is found in Sri Lanka (the crypts pages - http://www.cryptocoryneworld.org/index.php). According to Dennerle, a mutation by a plant within one of their greenhouses gave rise to the ‘Flamingo’ clone.

Plant Type: Semiaquatic

Image Details2:

Image 1: Submerse grown Cryptocoryne wendtii ‘Flamingo’ showing the bright pink colouration that develops when the plant is cultivated under the right conditions. This plant was cultured in a greenhouse.

Image 2: Cryptocoryne wendtii ‘Flamingo’ grown emerse in a greenhouse under mist.  The same pink colouration as seen in submerse plants is possible under high temperatures and intermittent mist. In cooler temperatures and dryer conditions the plant will turn a green-bronze colour. Leaf morphology also changes.

General Information and Cultivation3: A small to medium-size crypt, easy to cultivate submerse. Grow under high light to encourage pink leaf colouration.  Under lower light levels the plant become more upright and colour intensity will reduce. Cryptocoryne wendtii ‘Flamingo’ is adaptable to water (soft to medium-hard) and substrate (slightly acid to near-neutral) conditions.

Growing this crypt emerse is possible under high humidity/misting and low to moderate light intensity. As is the case for submerse cultivation, higher light levels promote the colour intensity of the leaves. Emerse, it grows to about 120mm in height.

Received my order today and the crypts look stunning! Dealing with Luke was a pleasure – he's easy to communicate with and very knowledgeable. Highly recommended!

  • Plants can alter their appearance due to seasonal influence, or in response to different environmental conditions or stage of maturity. This phenomenon is known as phenotypic plasticity, and it is especially evident in Aquatic/Semiaquatic plants. Whilst we endeavour to portray a plant accurately, the plant you receive may have been growing under different conditions or be at a different stage of maturity to the one in the image(s) provided.

  • Aquatic/Semiaquatic plants will be shipped bare-rooted and wrapped in damp paper for protection when required.

  • Terrestrial/Epiphytic plants will be shipped bare-rooted and the roots wrapped in damp sphagnum moss for protection when required.
