Image 1: Terrarium grown Selaginella andrewsii.
General Information and Cultivation3: A low growing, creeping plant that forms a carpet on the floor of the terrarium or can be trained onto rocks and logs. This Selaginella species has proven itself to be easy to grow and maintain in a terrarium, and it always keeps a nice compact form. A moderate growth rate makes it quite manageable. Selaginella andrewsii prefers humid terrarium conditions with reasonable ventilation. Tankquility cultures this clone at about 23° Celsius, in a granular substrate based on akadama and scoria. Fertilize sparingly.
Propagation by cutting is easy.
Note: This species has an extremely restricted distribution which is associated with the Critically Endangered ecological community 'Lowland Rainforest of Subtropical Australia' (EPBC Act Listing Status: Vulnerable). Plants can alter their appearance due to seasonal influence, or in response to different environmental conditions or stage of maturity. This phenomenon is known as phenotypic plasticity, and it is especially evident in Aquatic/Semiaquatic plants. Whilst we endeavour to portray a plant accurately, the plant you receive may have been growing under different conditions or be at a different stage of maturity to the one in the image(s) provided.
